Fire hurt the stone heads.

Flames sparked.  Smoke swirled.  A fire burned.  It hurt some of the big stone heads.

Fire makes stone crack.  The heads will crumble over time.  People do not want more fires to cause harm.

Pray the rest of the statues will be safe. We protect treasures like them to have a record of history.

The Rapa Nui people carved them from volcanic rock long ago. A fire swept through in October. No one is sure how it started. The mayor thinks local farmers did it. Farmers burn their fields to kill weeds and help plants grow. The island needs more firefighters! Moai were built to remember ancestors. The Bible teaches, “Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God.” (Hebrews 13:7)
